Medical Director / Palliative Medicine Specialist

We are recruiting a palliative care specialist at an exciting time for Hospice Marlborough as we develop our new model of community care. You will be a key player in promoting and upholding the brand integrity of Hospice Marlborough, ensuring our organisation continues to be recognised as a specialist service provider of high quality, person and whānau focused palliative care.

Key accountabilities are to:

  • Lead and manage the medical team at Hospice Marlborough, providing coaching, mentoring, supervision, and role modelling.
  • Provide comprehensive specialist palliative care for patients, families & whānau referred to Hospice Marlborough, interfacing with relevant health care partners.
  • Provide quality care, supporting families and patients whilst ensuring that the medical services are provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Provide palliative care education for non-specialist palliative care medical staff, including education and professional development for general practit

ABOUT YOU

Our successful applicant will have:

  • Vocational Registration with Medical Council of New Zealand including a current practicing certificate.
  • Membership of Australia & NZ Society of Palliative Medicine and Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine or FRACP (Pall Med).
  • Experience in implementing Te Tiriti O Waitangi principles and committed to achieving equitable health outcomes for all, particularly Māori.
  • Proven ability to develop trust and build successful community wide networks.
  • Effective communication with strong presentation skills and can demonstrate a collaborative working style.
  • A visible passion for healthcare and the field of palliative care.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner with an interest in palliative care to join the team at Hospice Marlborough.

About the Role

This position is a permanent role, FTE negotiable, allowing you to use your advanced clinical skills.

As a Nurse Practitioner you will be a valued member of our interdisciplinary team (IDT) contributing to providing specialist palliative care services. This role involves assessment and management of patients with palliative care needs including the prescription of medications. You will interact with a wide range of health professionals, and using your advanced interpersonal skills will build relationships, assisting your work as part of an IDT.

We strive to have a team that reflects the diversity of the communities we care for, including those who continue to be impacted by inequitable service access and health outcomes. As such we particularly welcome applicants from Māori, Pacific people, disabled people, and the LGBTQI+ communities.

About You

Our successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Previous nursing experience in specialist or primary palliative care but not essential
  • Registration as a Nurse Practitioner with Nursing Council
  • A current practicing certificate (Nursing Council of NZ)
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate nursing advice within an IDT
  • Experience working with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Advanced practice competencies in both an autonomous and collaborative manner
  • Current experience in New Zealand and be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
  • Hold a full New Zealand drivers licence
